JVC help needed

I have A JVC Digital video camera and when I put a tape in it goes in but I try to push play or record it runs for a couple seconds and then it says E04 Remove and reattach battery Then it says Unit Safeguard Mode but when I take the tape out it eats the tape up what should I do can anyone help me please.
