Blue disc errors

My PS2 game system is 4 years old and it won't play the discs that have a blue back on them. When I try them I get a disc read error. I have tried the method with the scotch tape, without any luck. Do you have any other helpful hints. I am wanting to play Ford Racing 3. Thanks
