gr-dv500u icon and "Please wait" message

I have a GR-DV500U and have experienced a problem. With the setting on video everything appears to work fine. However, with the setting on memory and the power switch on either "M" or "A" it will not allow me to take a picture. I get an hour glass shaped icon and a message that says "please wait" and I can't get it to go away. I have been taking pictures and down loading on computer. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
