dvd burning

I can't figure out how to burn a dvd using my computer dvd burner . Someone help, PLEASE.

    My computer is 3 months old, I ordered it with a cd and dvd burner. I need to know if dvd+r or -r is needed. I have a new desktop b-110 with windows xp. Can you help?
