Problem capturing

My Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV120 still records video and plays it back within the camera itself, but when trying to transfer to a computer, no picture or sound is captured. In trying to narrow down the source of the problem, I have purchased a new firewire and tested performance on 2 different computers with 2 different video editing programs, leading me to believe this problem is with the camera itself. No error messages from caturing software, just black screen and accurate time counter where playback would show on computer screen. Any ideas? Thanks!
