JVC AV-27230

Allan Posted Dec 14, 2005

White horizontal line in middle of screen. no video. sound is fine.

I have a Jvc av27230 tv that is fairly new, maybe 2-3yrs old. Initially there were thin white horizontal lines across the top of the picture. The tv works fine like this for another 6 months then died with just a bright white horizontal line in the middle. Sound still works great. Does anyone have the solutions to this problems?

Hi! Found this on About.com http://experts.about.com/q/TV-VCR-Stereo-1749/White-horizontal-lines-1.htm Hope it helps! --I McD Topic: TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting Expert: cleggsan Date: 6/21/2006 Subject: White horizontal lines Question There are white lines at the top of my TV screen. It came little by little over several months. When it started with just a tiny white line at the very top of the screen, now it fills about 1/3 of the screen. It also looks like the picture is upside down at that spot between the lines. When I use my DVD player (with components input to my TV), the lines are almost invisible if it's not for the main one - the bordeline between the problem spot and the rest of the screen. My TV is a JVC AV 27230. I like it and I would like to have it repaired. Technician are asking over a $60 just to look at it. I don't have a car and can't bring it in to the repair store. I was wondering if it could be something that I can fix myself. Thanks. Answer First, give your set the "whack" test. This is done by vigorously smacking the set with your hand or fist in various places. Doing this will vibrate the cold solder joints and reactivate any that may not be working properly. If that does not help, you will need to replace the vertical output transistor. It requires advanced soldering skills and general know how about electronic servicing. It is not a simple job. There may be some other components in the vertical deflection amplifier that need replacing, also. Only way to tell is have it tested out with electronic instruments. Hope this helps, Cleggsan
