Snowboarding pictures

I recently was snowboarding and taking shots of my son and wasn't watching where I was going and did a face plant with the camera. I brushed off the camera and continued shooting. When I got home later to dump in to the pc, it kept telling me the tape was not in. Now, it doesn't recognize a tape. What do you think the problem is. Never had any issues before and we've had it for about 17 months. Everything else works, video, camera, memory pictures, just no tape message and it always wants to eject, even with the flap closed.
