Re[2]: There goes another one - 7 yr. old Sony KV-27V40 DEAD !

G. Wood Posted Nov 24, 2005, in response to:Kerry Upton

Yes, it is a power supply blowout. Knowing nothing about how these TVs are made or work, I had an excellent ( > 25 yrs experience ) repairman fix it. It cost $130 for parts and labor. He knew what the problem was immediately upon hearing my verbal description, for this is VERY COMMON in these Sonys. Some welds made on the asembly line are insufficient to last. When they give out - and 7 years seems to be the useful life - the power supply immediately blows, and in turn this ruins a transistor or two. All these have to be replaced. Sony should be / must be aware of this, because this problem is so widespread. It seems to me to defeat the reason buyers pay more for Sony products - superior quality ---- NOT IN THESE CASES !!!!!! Good luck & Happy Thanksgiving ! G.W. Austin, TX
