Re[3]: JVC service or questions

Thank you, I kinda thought there might be something up with that, being two of the same units having the same problem.
I still can't find what "DEW" means, however, I did e-mail JVC to see what they say. I hope it to has a secret warranty recall... ;)

Hello Sean / I don't know where you actually are (country wise), but if you go into JVC's web page it gives you the customer services phone number to contact regarding the procedure for the lens cap "free" repair, the only proviso is that you have to have the original receipt and send them a photo copy of it, they in turn will send you a free repair authorisation slip and tell you where to take, or send the camcorder to. (JVC.UK. phone number 0870-330-5000)
(JVC.USA. (800)-858-6442)
Regards the "DEW" sensor, judging by what I read, this seems to be a widespread problem, and is really an indication of cold or dampness on the tape head. Some VCR's also have a similar facility, but if a camcorder is left in a warm room all day this should not happen unless a fault condition applies, like contamination getting onto the sensor. (which is on the fixed part of the tape drum) Regards / John
