Has anyone encountered an internal flash not functioning on the Sony Mavica CD400?

I would like to know if anyone has ever had the internal flash not function, and if it was repaired successfully. I would also like to know if I would be better off buying an external flash for the camera, and ifan external flash would work even if the internal does not work. I would not want to buy something that may not operate. I don't know if the flash system would be tied together somehow. I would appreciate any feedback. Sheila
