Snowy image!

I have an old JVC camera that uses VHS(C) tapes. I pulled it out the other day to try and record the tapes to DVD. It played one tape beautifully but every tape after that, the video only diplayed snow, but the sound quality was great. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I really want to save these tapes, b/c (of course) they are of my kids. I would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks!!
