Cassette loading mechanism not closing all the way. Flashing code C:32:11

It was working fine but then started to eject the tape automatically when it sat for long period of time(I think it was due to a low battery even though it was off). Is it possible that the batteries are just not strong enough anymore? Even with a full charge it still will not close all the way but the batteries do not hold a charge very long either. Thanks for any info you can provide.
