I know this sounds off-topic but it might not be... I have a Sony 52" rear projection tv... if your unit that you speak of is rear projection large screen then maybe its what sony calls the D board... mine fried from running an air conditioner. the surge from the AC fried a chip on the D board.
All the set did was flash the ON/STANDBY light and sometimes there was sound and sometimes not.
A relative in the repair industry repaired it for cost of parts alone and it was just over $90 cad. for the one IC that fried.
Maybe JVC has the same type of over-sensitive circuitry?
