JVC Service procedures.

As JVC (USA)has stated that it will repair the obvious manufacturing defect of the lens cap problem free of charge, are there any plans for JVC (UK) to follow this lead? What annoys me is, that I personally recommended to my son that he buy the JVC GR-D20 camera over others he was looking at, then just outside the guarantee period it failed on him, even although the camera had only about 8 to 10 hours use altogether, then of course only to find out that this is a widespread problem. Please advise.
