My Satellite receiver had a automatic s/w upgrade on on restart of the receiver - tv went blank and silent

I have just had my tv connection switched from cable to satellite. All went well and the technician left but after approximately one hour, the tv showed the message 'software update no not switch off' .I left it and watched the 'timebar' move across the screen until 99% then the screen went blank and since then no picture no sound. Just a steady green timer light. The manual states it may be the autotuner or input mode may be set improperly, but how can I check if there is no picture? Is there a way to factory reset when you have no visible guidelines? (maybe a button in the back of the tv?
