Screen randomly breaks into white noise.

Hello, I have a 10 year old Sony 27" Trinitron. Occasionally, (once or twice per day), the screen is interrupted with white noise/static. It is almost like a loss of signal, but this is not the case: I can flick channels while this is happening and the screen is the same [at every channel]. It is almost like a component is loose. Note also, I can hear a noise in the back of the TV when this is happening - similar to the sound a light bulb makes when you shake it. Any ideas? Thank you, John
