Similar allfiction, C:13:01 Error with a DSC-P10

A while back i had a Sony 128MB Memory Stick, which died on me: "C:13:01 Memory Stick Error" after some use. I assumed it was just an odd memory faliure, my Sony 32MB Memory Stick still worked fine, but today, i just bought a Sony 1GB Memory Stick Pro, and am now getting the same error, gave it a fair smack, as some people suggested, as with squeezing the chip, rapidly plugging it in and out, cleaning the contacts. Cannot format the chip as the camera wont let me, and the PC doesn't recognise it in the case of both chips. As I am getting the error with both chips, i assume it would be a camera problem, but as they pc cannot read either chip, it could suggest they are at fault despite one immediately coming out of a packet. Sony seems to be of no help, am considering opening the camera and attempting to reconnect any circuitry, but would rather not undertake the task... Any help of any thought would be most appriciated...
