JVC GR-DVL100. Same Problem E04 "Unit in safeguard mode". Ejected the cassette and just when it was about to eject, pushed it in... and the error is gone. Thanks!!

  It's worked to me too - the procedure is: just open the cassette cover, eject the tape and right the way push it back again. I've done this 3 to 4 times and... done. I've also used a head cleaner cassette before doing it (the head cleaner cassette alone have not fixed the problem). It appears to be some kind of hard reset. Thanks.
