Re[4]: Error Codes Assistance

mitzi Posted Oct 09, 2005, in response to:amy gustin

Okay, I'm aware how dumb this is going to sound, but hear me out. I bought one of these on ebay for a whopping 11 bucks knowing full well it was throwing an e23 error, but hoping that my husband and I could fix it. I researched on the internet, and found the standard " humidity problem" explanation, along with price tags around 150-200 to fix it. So here's what I did... I grabbed a paper towel and folded it really thin so that it would fit in the slot for the cd player.... let the motor grab it and pull it in as far as it would...and kinda wiggled it around in there. (My husband was looking at me like I was out of my mind the whole time.) Guess what...worked like a charm. That's been about 6 months ago, and it still works like a champ. I know it sounds crazy, but I guess I figured I could'nt make it work any less... Anyway, ya might give it a shot, worked out great for me. Good luck!

Hey I tried your trick to fix the error code E20 on my CD player in my 99 grand prix and it worked !!!! I had to cut a paper towel to fit the slot but I folded the paper towel over an old scratch off lottery ticket...took a little wiggling to get it in, but once it went it took it in made some noise for 5 seconds or so and spit it out. I inserted a CD and Damn it worked...Thanks for the info.....S

I bought a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am last week and my cd player worked great at first. Then when my brother used the car to go to school, he said that the player worked fine until his cd spit out(brand new, by the way). That's when the E20 error came on. Do you think if I use the paper towel treatment, that this will work for me also? I hope it does. Thanks for a reply.

Just had to post here and say thanks to mitzi, I was having the same problem with my cd player (again in a '99 Grand Prix). It was driving me crazy, I contemplated putting in a whole new system. At the last moment I decided to do a quick search on the internet to determine exactly what the error code meant, and this was the first site that came up. I read your paper towel idea, tried it, and it works perfectly again. Mad props to mitzi for thinking outside the box :D
