Has anyone had a GOOD experience with connection an active subwoofer to this system? Or for similar EX-A1 ?

It sounds great, but i feel i need more lows... There is a separate RCA subwoofer output and note in the manual that the external subwoofer must be an active one. I use it mainly for enviromental music at the workplace... Can somebody recommend me some criterias to select the right subwoofer ? Is it correct that the larger speaker produces better sound?
