I have a DSC-W1 and have been having the same problem for a couple of months..even ent it back to Sony, who told me I had a faulty Memory Stick! Anyway, I have discovered that if I push the memory stick up as I insert it I don't have a problem...works every single time! MAybe it will stop working soon but as for now it is working like a charm! Good luck!
