Looking for probable cause of green dot

Hi, I purchased a DCR TRV20 on Ebay a month ago. I have noticed the past week, agreen dot comes in view on the LCD and viewfinder. It does not show up in the captured pic. And goes away on playback and standby-record mode. What could be the trouble. I noticed it after I purchased a memory card reader and downloaded the pics..........erased the card. Do'nt think green dot was there before, but after installing memory card back into cam the green dot?? Maybe a virus?? Would taking out internal battery clear this up? Thank you for youre time.
