No connection with PC and Camcorda

I purchase this JVC GR-DR450U Camcorder and I cannot get my PC to recognise it when they are connected with the USB Cable which came with it. Do I need any additional software besides the CR-ROM ( Digital Photo Navigator) which came with the camcorder? I am desperate to transfer my video to my computer.
