WILL NOT RECORD. MESSAGE ON SCREEN SAYS TO REMOVE LENS CAP. CANNOT LOOK THRU CAMERA.

I have the above model camcorder that I have had for a little over 1 year. Have not used very much. Have never had a problem until today. When I tried to turn on, it had a remove lens cap message come on the screen. I cannot get to record. I cannot look thru camera. I can still play a previously recorded tape. Do you have any suggestions? Henry Hines
