My camera had the same problems. I got a quote of 500 Pounds from Sony Service UK. They call replacing the Lens Block Assembly. But actually they replace only a small board called the CD408 Imager. And they charge us the price of a new camera. I guess this is the end of my association with Sony. Good Luck Folks Jaideep Asokan

I too have the same problem, it's a sad that a company like Sony does not respond to this defect.

I too think i have the same problem you guys are having. I went to sony.com and registered the camera for repair. They provided me with an event Id and instructions on how to send the camera back. There is a base cost of US$171 that could be charged. It depends on a number of conditions however, if the camera does not conform to these conditions, they say the cost could go up. They do not charge you until they assess the camera first. If the cost is higher then the US$171, they say that they will e-mail a quotation consisting of parts and labour. The camera should reach the Sony Repair Centre next week or so. I'll keep you guys updated.

SONY DSCF717 CCD DAMAGED TOO !! It happened exactly the same with me. It is a true absurdity. I have information at least other 20 people with similar problems with F717 CCD. It is very serious. Please, help me. I need this machine to work. Here in Brazil it is extremely absurd the price that they want to collect for this component.

I have same problem in my DSC-F717 camera which I bought 2 and 1/2 yrs ago in US. Now I am in India and a faculty member of Dept. of Biotechnolgy, University of Calcutta.Last three months I didn't use my camera. when I turned last weak-end sept 03, 2005, I found that some redish lines then totally dark on LCD. I took the to service centre of Sony, they told me that CCD had gone. I will have to pay US $400 to replace total unit. I am very much surprised and shocked. It was US $1000.00 when I bought (so expensive!!) and within couple of years, it is gone. I would like to ask sony what is the quality control they are mainting in high price digital camera?
