Now it appears that the picture has shifted and I have thin lines on the screen instead of a picture.

I had 2 kids fighting over the TV being on or off. You know one switching it on while to other switched it off. They stopped when the picture was screwed up. When there is a signal, from a VCR, DVD, Cable, etc. the picture is nothing more then thin horizontal lines. However, the sound is still good. Any ideas on how I could fix this?
