troubleshooting

Hi, I took the needle off the arm of the turntable to clean it and when I replaced it and then placed the needle on the record it just slid right to the end of the record. There is an anti-skating knob and a knob at the end of the arm that I've readjusted to try to fix the matter but neither is working. What happened? Please can you help me??
