Camcorder sound problem

My camcorder has what I beleive to be motor noise on playback of recorded tape. I was wondering if you know if this noise is mechanically transfered via the case or if it is noise picked up through the mic wires electrically. There is also the possibility that the tape motor is to loud when rolling the tape. I can hear the motor during recording and playback of the tape with my ear close to the camcorder, though it is faint. I am not familiar with these new dv camcorders, so if the motors are supposed to be silent that would explain that I have a problem with the motor. Any insight would be helpful, Thanks.
