Sony str-da30es no power

Peter Posted Jul 21, 2005

DOA on start up. Have schmatics/manual, but out of ideas.

Hi All, I am looking for a repair forum that may have seen this sort of problem. I can't get the blasted thing to power up. I have replaced Q102, a SMT digital transistor thinking it was shorting the "stop" circuit. The stop circuit reads aprox. 5.6 volts until I plug in the display board, then it drops to aprox 200mv. SO I am assuming somthing on the display board is trying to bring that to ground. The display board hasthe display and mode controler on it. Any ideas, or ideas on where I can post this question? Sure would appreciate it!

lots of things to check. when you push the power button can you hear a "click"??? this is line relay opening and closing. if answer is yes the cpu (microprocessor) is running. so look for blown fuses on power supply board. if fuses are blown look for shorted power amp transistors. use volt meter to check for B plus/minus on collectors. now if now click is NOT heard when pushing power button troubleshoot standby 5v power supply. is 5v there??? shoot cpu. no 5v??? shoot power supply. including the standby 5v power transformer. seen this open up from lightning damage. also ohm out primary of big power transformer. ive seen these open up. got service manual??? if no get one before attempting ANY repairs. luck
