Re: JVC service or questions

Sarah Posted Jul 21, 2005, in response to:Stacy Sample

I bought a JVC GR-D27OU last night at Best Buy in Toledo, Ohio. The guy working there told me that this particular model (which I bought for $349 over another model that was only $299 but was almost the same thing), was different because unlike the cheap model, this one could transfer video through firewire OR through USB. I bought it because I do not have firewire, but I've tried all day to get my computer to recognize my camcorder plugged in through the USB cable that came with it, but it does not work. I have the "digital photo navagator" software that cam in the box installed. I have the AC adaptor plugged in to the camera. I've tried putting the camcorder on "Play", "A", "M", and "off" modes, but the computer does not recognise the new software. This is making me mad. From my editing software I get a message that says "a video capture device was not detected. Verify that a device is turned on and connected properly, and then try again." So what IS the proper procedure for doing this? Please help me.

I have the same model and bought it for the very same reason. You MUST have firewire even if you load via USB. Unfortunately it does not tell you that, but without it all you will get is your stills. The cards are not expensive. I bought one at Circuit City, but do not remember the price, just remember that it was not expensive. I bought the one that has 2 USB connectors, but you can also get the one that has both options available. Very frustrating, but that is why you cannot view your movies. Hope this helped.

Hello, I believe you can only transfer photos through USB. Firewire is for video transfer.
