Had a similar problem while I was living in Japan with my KWP-65hd1 except the TV tended to switch off and then the 5 flash error code started. I could reset the TV and it would work for another 10 min or so until the frequency of shut down became unbearable. I never quite understood what the Japanese guy was saying to me, but after replacing nearly all of the parts he tracked it down to 3 resistors that were out of spec and causing over heating. He replaced those and I haven't had that issue again.

Can you tell me what resistors he swapped out, or what he found to determine the problem. I have the exact same issues.

I have just ran into the same problem. Set looks ok for about 30 min. at a cold start, then intermitently, the video starts to come and go, while the audio is still present. Very annoying, I called Sony and they directed me to one of their contractors for service...$350. for diagnosis plus parts. I am very disappointed considering that this was a $13,000 set, I did not expect it to go after 5 years. I love this set when it works. Any help that you could give me as to what board was affected and which components need to be replaced, I would really appreciate. Thanks.
