I am using Windows Movie Maker but cannot get the video onto the computer

I have a JVC GR33ER and I bought a Firewire card to fit into the slot on my laptop. I connected everything up and the program (Windows Movie Maker) recognised the camera, it even allowed me to start and stop the camera from the laptop screen. However I spent a lot of time trying to capture the video but when I was finished, the program said it did not capture the video. Can you offer some advise please ? Berty
