Poor dubbing speed

I try to dub Video movies from my hard drive to DVD using High speed dubbing but if the movie is 90 mins long then it will take 90 mins to high speed dub to DVD, I now have to record direct to DVD as this works faster.I am using 16x Verbatim DVD which should take 6 mins to dub a 90 min movie. ? Any ideas why my high speed dubbing does not appear to work.
