Our Ps2 is now set on progressive scan mode and won't play dvds.

Does anyone know how to reset our ps2 to No progressive scan mode? Games work but the dvd player was "mistakenly" set to progressive scan and now it won't play dvds. Trying to bring up the menu to change settings is useless since there is no image on the screen when the ps2 is in dvd mode. cables and player are fine so I'm pretty sure it's the changed setting. Ideas?
