sony model kp46c70 - 46" rear projector tv - need new front screen - 38"X29"

above tv screen was damaged during hurricane frances and it looks like the inner "plexiglass" display screen is cracked in the lower right quadrant of the display screen - the part that is cracked I believe to be called a diffusion plate. I have contacted sony direct but they stay item is discontinued - any suggestions on where a replacement screen can be found or a suitable part fabricated to solve this condition. I have previous experience in computer and small electronic item and electrical repairs. Is this a DIY project ?
