Panasonic PV-GS15 camcorder with audio humm

We are using shielded cable to plug a mic mixer into the external microphone jack of the above listed camera. When doing so, it creates a very annoying 'hum' in the audio. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we may eliminate this 'humming' sound? Thanks!
