Actually that is normal of this feature. I believe the camcorder is opening it's optical assy all the way for the light to come in as much as possible for the low light recording. If the camcorder is trying to focus on an object and you move the camcorder during this feature the optical assy will go in/out and hunt for what it thinks you are trying to focus on. Your operation manual does hit upon this issue and you may want to re-read it to verify if your camcorder is operating normal. Try going into a fairly dark or unlit room and turn on the feature in automatic and also manual mode. See how it reacts in each mode. Focus on a specific object in the room in each mode. Note the reaction of the unit in each mode and see if you think it is the camcorder failing or normal reaction via the manuals user notes.
