YES - it works! Strangely enough I was about to hit it anyway out of frustration.

I couldn't believe it. Thought I had lost my daughter's graduation video until I found this forum post. I hit my Sony as recommended and chuff me - it worked!! I cannot believe it - isn't the internet a wonderful thing? Thanks guys!

It still works in 2008! I tried it on my Sony DCR-TRV330. With my daughter's birthday tomorrow, I hit the panic button before I looked at this forum and tried it. Thanks a lot!

Just used this on my DCR-HC90, worked like a charm. My wife didn't like the idea of having to hit the camera occasionally, until I pointed out that Sony wants $300+ to fix it.

I simply don't believe - I thought it was sort of spoof, but damn me if it didn't work for my Sony DCR PC 100E. Probably a ploy by Sony so they don't have to employ expensive engineers in their workshops, just people who know how to slap.

This tip saved me so much money. My wife and I tried this in the car on the way to purchase a new camcorder. Now, our old one works like new.

I'm so glad that with my intial post so many people were able to slap some sense into their cams, after 2 and half years it still works, the funny thing is that I repair these electronics 4 a living, but I still found no logic for that fix, but it sure works. So when in doubt a good slap may do the trick. Good luck all. Manny
