JVC GR-D270U 16 bit awful sound mode.

I just bought (45 days ago)a JVC GR-270U. After recording a tape in 16 bit, LP mode, I realized that the sound quality is terrible and the sound skips and breaks up during playback. I am not sure of what to do and I know that there is a Factory warranty for one year. Unfrotunately, I purchased the unit from Buydig.com and their return policy is only 10 days after you purchace. How can you tell in ten days? Any ideas of the problem or how to solve it? Thanks Moe
