Video camera's + USB power surge

I just bought a 200 pound digital video camera, state of the art, it arrived only today. it had a USB connection as one of its means of transferring data to the computor. i installed in on USB exaclty as the booklet instructed. (im computor cabable) and i plugged it in and after 2 mins of it being in there it said "USB Powe Surge" on my comp. my camera wont turn on. is it broken forever and how much will it cost to get fixed? dinah x
