JVC Color Video Camera Model GX-N7U

JVC Color Video Camera GX-N7U question

What is this? My 13 year old son picked it up at a garage sale and now wonders how it works. "Where's the tape go? Where's the battery go?" I have a feeling it doesn't even work that way. Can anyone tell him how this thing works?? Thanks!

Hi: This is probably one of the JVC cameras from the mid-1980s. Usually they had a multi-pin cable (about 6 feet) that came out the back and inserted into a VCR. However, the VCRs weren't like the ones we buy today. They were in 2 pieces and one of those pieces let you insert a video tape. Sometimes you can find these on Ebay under vintage video cameras or vintage VCR. They usually go for about $15 with shipping $10 to $20. You need both pieces in good working condition. However, it sounds like you don't know if the camera works. You might have your son take the camera to a repair shop run by someone who has a lot of old stuff. He/She may have an old 2-unit VCR the camera can be cabled to so that you can find out if the camera works. I would do that before spending more money on a VCR. You also might try Googling the model number and try to find the manual for the camera. Good luck. Lee

could be sold as a security camera for a garage one piece goes as a mounted camera the rest on the other side of a wall hooked to a vcr Dave

The JVC GX-N7U camera is just that--a camera, not a camcorder. We have one that was used with a separate RCA video recorder, so it was hardly portable--camera had to be cabled to recorder which had to have a heavy battery pack attached or be plugged in to AC current. I've seen several for sales on eBay but don't know what anyone could do with them in these days of small, light self-contained camcorders.
