How can i download from the camera to the comp?

i am having trouble downloading from the camera straight to the computer. can anyone help me on this? i have the usb hooked up to the correct port and it reads that it is hooked up under "my computer" but there isnt any way that i can get the video displayed on the computer. any info that you could give me on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks, preston
