Camera is locked and I don't know why. PLEASE HELP!! I AM DESPERATE!!

I recieved the VX1000 as a gift and when I got it, it was already used and there was no instruction manual. I have had it for about a year and have had no problems thus far. Now all of a sudden when I look through the viewfinder there is a little symbol in the center of the screen that looks like an eject symbol, a triangle over a line on the bottom. Ever since this symbol appeared I cannot perform any opperations on the camers besides photo capture. I can record no video and I cannot review any video in the VTR mode. I have tried everything to get this symbol off the screen and to be able to use my camera again, but nothing has worked. Please help me. I am in desperate need of assistance.
