Reparing of DCTRV18E - Sony for water / sand

Hi, REcently on a visit to a beach my DC TRV18E Mini DV Handycam of Sony got a splash of water and bit of sand. This resulted into hanging of the handycam. Subsequent to three four days of drying in Sun though the handycam has started functioning but off and on its fuunctions are not working propertly. Even LCD screen goes off after sometime though one can see from view finder. Memory stick / VCR function sometimes hangs. I checked up with the sony service centre in Mumbai but just for inspections they are asking for a minimum of Rs 1500/- plus taxes. What is your advise. How should i get it back to normal at a minimal cost ?
