Re[2]: SONY C:13:01 ERROR

Jim Millson Posted Apr 18, 2005, in response to:Billy Bob

I bought a new Sony F717 in June of 2004 and it lasted 4 months before the first C:13:01 error. It seemed to magically fix itself a short time later and then went on me again a week ago (just as I went to take the first pictures of my kids at Niagara Falls, talk about disappointment). I went on-line and found all sorts of solutions that didn't work for me. I rubbed the card contacts, I bumped the camera, I re-formatted it and reset it and tried a different card etc etc and nothing worked. Anyway it was still on warranty so I took it in for service. The tech said he couldn't find anything about this on a Sony technical bulletin, which given the amount of reported instances on the net is completely amazing. He got rooting around inside the camera and found exactly what you did; the end of the ribbon cable connecting the card reader to the main board had popped out on one end about a millimetre. He re-inserted it and used some foam tape to hold it in place and it immediately corrected the problem. This C:13:01 error seems to be quite a problem with Sony cameras in general, maybe just a design fault with the ribbon end. Anyway I hope this helps someone a little, it made me feel better to know I didn't waste hundreds of dollars on a paperweight.
