Because maybe you using usb cable to transfer still photo. To transfer movies you need dv cable and dv port on your pc. Available everywhere pci with DV port. Buy a dv cable and connect 6pin onto pc and 4 pin onto camcorder. Download appropriate software or use Movie Maker from WINXP.
