screen problems w/ AV30W585

roger Posted Apr 07, 2005

screen image degrades (darkens) the longer the unit is turned on.

New (1 month old) AV30W585. After three weeks of trouble-free use, the image started to gradually darken the longer the set was on. The progressive darkening begins after 2+ hours of operation and becomes unwatchable after 4-5 hours. If set it turned off for 1+ hour the image is restored and the process starts all over again. The image settings are all "Neutral" (that is, set at "0") and this is not source-specific behavior. Dealer won't replace since he has no others in stock. Called JVC service for warranty repair and tech came, acknowledged the problem, and suggested it might be the flyback transformer and took the unit for further diagnostics and repair. Said might be a few weeks since this is a new model and he won't have the part in stock. Can anyone shed some light on this (no pun intended). Do the symptoms sound familiar? And the diagnosis? Thanks very much. FWIW, this set has the BEST picture quality around when it's working. Far better than our Sony XBR or our Toshiba HFX. Just hope we can get it fixed.

Hi, Just wondering what the outcome was with your tv. I recently saw an ad in the newspaper for the JVC AV30W585 and was wondering if I should pick it up...it's going for $500 (down from $900). Can you tell me what you think of this television - does it have a built in ATSC tuner? Sorry for the questions - but I can't seem to find anything about this television on-line. Thanks!
