Stuck tape on my jvc digital video camera.

I have a JVC GR DV-500U digital video camera and the tape ejection mechanism came up but wouldn't open to release the tape. The tape itself got wound up in the works and the screen keeps saying "EO3 unit in safeguard mode - eject and reinsert tape". Can i fix this? Is it just a stuck tape or an indication of some other problem? My Main problem is that I am living in Inuvik Northwest territories and there isn't anyone within 1000 kms to fix it, shipping from here costs alot and takes forever, and i don't have my receipt/warranty anymore. I would like to be able to do it myself. Help!
