HomeSimiliar to the police setup, I would like to put together a system for recording in my auto. I was recently in a minor auto accident, and although it wasn’t my fault, there was no proof and I had to split the cost.... To prevent this in the future, I would like to setup a video camera and recorder for my car. I would also be fun to record some of the bad Boston drivers for viewing at the computer... I would use a camera like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32826&item=5757975879&rd=1 ...but am having problems finding a simple/cheap recorder to interface with the video unit. It would need to be DC powered and I would like it to just record data in a loop (2 hours, for example)... Any suggestions?

There are two of us in this world looking for a car camera/video recorder system--you and I. Actually, I am looking for a video-recording system for private cars that can be used as a sort of "black box" by loop-recording all that happens in front of (or behind) the car, for the same reason as you. By "loop-recording" I mean that the recording goes on for a limited time (say 15 minutes) then it starts all over erasing what was previously recorded, so that at any time only the last 15 minutes are available. In case of an accident, the system stops and what has happened may be viewed to establish whose fault it was. Unfortunately no one seems to have such a system or be interested in developing one. So, I can be of no help. Instead, I am requesting your help, in case in the meanwhile you have found what you (and I) are looking for. Thank you. Tony Attanasio |
