Panasonic video NV HV 61 error EL 1

Panasonic error code EL 1
I have a Panasonic video model NV HV 61
An error message EL 1[or I] has appeared next to the clock which is still working.
The tape cannot be ejected and nothing happens when any of the control buttons are pressed.
Thanks for any help.

Fixed the problem somehow by moving the video cassette around inside ......

Thanks for replying but to be honest I'd forgotten all about that problem from two years ago.
I still have the video so if I ever want to transfer some old footage to DVD I can do what you suggest.
I now use a 80GB hdd/dvd recorder made by LG and even that freezes up now and again, but it's more reliable than a video recorder and a better picture of course.
